Granny wants an heir: 70 year old woman gives birth to twins

From India, the land of wonders, comes this odd tale of a couple's desperate attempt to produce an heir. Omkari Panwar, 70, gave birth to boy-girl twins last Friday. She was four years older than the previously documented oldest women to give birth. They were healthy, despite being a month early, and are expected to survive. The twins were conceived after intensive IVF treatments which left the couple penniless. More, after the jump.

Omkari and her husband, Charan Singh Panwar, 77, already have two adult daughters and five grandchildren, but their failure to produce a son left them no choice but invest every monetary resource in a final attempt to secure an heir. The former farmers mortgaged their fields, sold their buffalos, and signed up for a credit card to afford the costly medical expenses associated with the affair.

Which leaves me wondering if their heir will have anything left worth inheriting...
